Andy Weinstein
Andy Weinstein is a Baltimore-based artist and 2024 graduate of Colgate University. While oil painting remains his primary discipline, his collegiate studio practice and experience teaching in Baltimore City Public Schools have expanded his interests across painting, printmaking, photography, and drawing. Much of Weinstein’s work draws from lived experiences, observed moments, and familiar scenes, combining an observational approach with a playful sensitivity to color and light. In addition to his personal practice, he has recently undertaken commissions including pet portraits and public-facing mural projects.
Weinstein’s practice is rooted in the act of noticing and in the desire to slow down experiences that might otherwise pass unnoticed. He draws from photographs, film stills, historical sources, archives, and places he encounters, using each medium to reinterpret rather than simply reproduce a moment. Oil painting allows him to manipulate images through layering, color, and surface, while cyanotype and printmaking introduce chance, repetition, and the physical trace of light. Photography and drawing offer other ways of recording atmosphere, gesture, and memory. Across these materials, Weinstein is interested in how shifts in process and mark-making can transform the emotional character of an image, making something ordinary feel strange, tender, or newly significant. His work ultimately seeks to give fragments of time a second life, creating images that invite viewers to pause, look closely, and linger within a moment.
